The Will to Excel
Hey Archers,
Since it's a new year, and we are all in the mood to start in the right mood, as shared by our President Chang and Captain Tin, I would also like to add in to the words shared by the two of them.
Although NP archery now has already secured a foothold in the local archery scene, it is absolutely imperative that we hold on to it. Although we have won POL-ITE 2 years in a row, it does not mean that we will win it again, especially when the other institutes of education is currently catching up. We have all probably heard of the chinese idiom, "To start a business is difficult, to guard the business is even tougher" The same goes for archery, it was tough for us to reach our current standings, it will be even tougher in future to maintain.
When I was back in Secondary School, in my Boys' Brigade unit, my CSM used to say, "Tough times don't last, Tough Man do" These words goes the same towards your training. It might take days, weeks, possibly months to get the right form, right results on the target board, but with the right attitude, as stated by our Captain Tin, I am sure we will all succeed, because we are willing to excel.
Age wrinkles the skin, but giving up wrinkles the soul. Under any circumstances we must try, and try we must, for it is always better to die standing than live on your knees. Ask yourself 50 years down the road, will you look back upon your life and question whether you excelled and lived your life well, or will you smile at it and give yourself a pat on the shoulders telling yourself, "What a life I've been through"
I'm sure all of us in the club is happy that we won POL-ITE again, and that we all equally share the pride and glory in winning it. But again, it is because we all did it as a club. Now is the time to seriously tell yourself, "Ask not what the club can do for you, ask what you can do for club"
As such, I ask that all of us, in NP archery, in this new year 2009, that all of us have the Will to Excel, to have the Thirst for Success, to have the Patience to Learn, to have the Discipline to Train. When we all have these 4 factors in place, even when we lose a tournament in future (touchwood), we will all be winners for, at least we live up to our consience, and that we know we tried.
We are all winners in our own different little ways, make the best of yourself. This post is just 2 cents worth of my thoughts, and to further support your President's and Captain's previous posts.
Have a good year ahead.
