The longest post ever but please read it!

Hello archers,

Your mental control your performance, skills, and focus when shooting so it is a very important factors to all athletes and archers.
Here are some tips I have for you to help you train and improve your mental thus shooting and trust me, they work.

1) ''To achieve in sports you first have to have a dream, and then you must act on that dream. The best athletes are those who truly enjoy what they are doing and display a tremendous amount of work ethic. They continue to persevere in spite of setbacks and never lose sight of their ultimate goals. "
[Dianne Holum, Olympic gold medalist in Speed Skating.]

2)"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and, most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."
[Edison Arantes do Nascimento, Greatest footballer of all time.]

3)"It is not necessarily the amount of time you spend at practice that counts; it is what you put in practice!"
[Eric Lindros, Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist, Ice Hockey.]

Please do not misunderstand the meaning of the quote above. As Singaporean athletes, we do not have as much time to train as compared to oversea athletes as we have to care about our education. We are still lack of training and we have to train more so that we will have the strength and skills, especially the juniors and some seniors.

This quote simply means to us that is not just going to training and shoot for the sake of shooting and expect a good result, is what you put into training. Focusing on the correct form and the things that you have to do or the things that coach tells you to do every shot and every end.

4)"If you don't practice you don't deserve to win."
[Andre Kirk Agassi, Former world number one tennis player.]

5)"Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect."
[Vince Lombardi, Legendary American Football Coach.]

Last but not least,
6)"Use sport performance videos to practice imagery regularly."
[Edgar K. Tham, Singapore Sports Council Sports Councillor.]

The using of videos to practice imagery is widely used within Ngee Ann Archery club itself. Most of  your seniors including me, often search and watch videos of world class archer practicing for example, the former world best female recurve archer Park Sung Hyun.

After watching the videos several times, we learn the form and mentally rehearse the images as clearly as possible before physically doing them.

It is a very important key to remember and image the world best archer shooting or the form or feeling of your most perfect arrow shot in your mind before shooting as it allow you to have a constant focus and gives you the rhythm and consistency you need for archery.

That is all for now.
Practice and remember all this and you will see yourself standing on the podium of the Olympics someday like the owners of the quotes above. Dare to dream, dare to achieve.

Thank you.

Regards,
Keith Teo
